What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
One of my earliest memories is of singing “Say, Say, Oh Playmate" with my mother. The song followed me through childhood as a clapping game, and into adulthood as a favorite lullaby for my children. Through the years, I wondered about the playmates. Who were they? What became of them? So I decided to follow the story through to its logical conclusion. Do you remember the "Dick and Jane" readers? As a child of the '60s, I learned to read with "See Spot run! Run, Spot, run!" and during the design process, I imagined the playmates, and general design, to be similar to those early readers.
