I’m from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. I dabble in everything from short stories, to poetry, to song lyrics, to picture books, to all kinds of fiction, and movie scripts. My writer’s voice keeps me busy, that’s for sure.
Many of my ideas are derived from his obsession with strange films and documentaries. I love this stuff, especially those works when the creator is not afraid to think outside the box.
I have a lovely wife Andrea and two beautiful children – Mikey is turning 5 and my daughter Sici is 1. Sure my life can be chaotic at times, but they are my diamonds. I thank them for putting up with my relentlessly demanding writer’s voice.
Author of Paulie Potatoes: Gangster Crusader, Farrah in Fairyland, Dr. SillyPants and the Secret Laboratory, Mickey Angie Lowe and his Crazy Fantastic Doodle Pen.

What inspires you to write?
I have been teaching elementary school for ten years. I get a lot of inspiration from my students – I love picking their brain about what they like watching, reading and listening to. I try to immerse myself in the pop-culture that is their world and I think this helps me to tap into my inner child. My teaching style also involves a lot of story-telling. It’s a rush when I challenge myself to pull from this body of knowledge, interweaving my creative soul into a lesson. I’ m able to connect with and motivate my students and my hope is that I can bring this connection to my writing.
Tell us about your writing process
It always starts off with an idea. This idea often pops into my head in the strangest of places like the doctor’s office, the shower, at church, while I’m changing dirty diapers…I swear I have ADD. Then it just flows. It is like I am channelling some super story-teller being from the clouds. Within seconds the words are there. It is then my job to piece them together in an order that makes sense, to twist them, rework them, revise them, rework them, revise them, until the words are something legible.
How do you think writing for children and young adults is different from writing for an adult audience?
My life is children whether at home or in the classroom. This suits me just fine, because I’m a whacky childish adult to being with. Children and young adults will always be my audience, plus most content for adults is either too mushy or dark for my tastes anyway.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
The funny thing is that when I’m writing, the characters are always stuck in my head. I feel a responsibility to get their story out. Sometimes this gets in the way of the other things in my life, but I can’t help it. Plus I have a bad memory, so I have to get things down and out before they are gone forever.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I went through the traditional route via publishing houses and agents for years. Although I was told I was not the right fit again and again, I took this as a good sign, part of me expected nasty letters telling me that I can’t write etc. I came to a point where I knew that I was never going to stop writing, so I decided to self publish my manuscripts as ebooks. It is such a thrill to know that people are reading my stuff. I will continue to work hard for my audience, pushing my creativity to the limit and then a little more.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The literary world is great. Unlike Hollywood where we are constantly bombarded by sequel after sequel and remake after remake, writers, especially Indie writers, are able to produce something magical. When a writer in uninhibited to explore that strange and wonderful part of their brains, thats when the spectacular is created.
The future of book publishing is fierce – whether it is digital or print. It is a whirlwind that I hope I can keep up with.
