Our heroine is Eloise Grace Graystone, known to family and friends by her initials – Egg. Her adventure begins in Book one, Flying Girl, on the day her grandmother gives her a flying suit and three mysterious pieces of jewelry.
The first six books tell the story of Egg as she begins to discover the secrets of the jewelry. The last six books chronicle Egg’s quest to save Arianna, a world that’s home to three intelligent species – humans, dragons and sea serpents. Here begins her journey from a nine year old girl to the leader of the Hameggattic Sisterhood.
Targeted Age Group:: girls, 6 thru 11
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
It began with a poem written by my then twelve year old son. Please refer to my ‘author’s bio’ for all the scintillating details.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
My heroine is Eloise . Her name is that of a neighbor’s child for whom the first book was written to amuse.
I wanted an interesting nickname and the girl’s initials seemed like the way to go. I didn’t know very many three letter fun words that began with “E”. For no particular reason, Egg came to mind. So I expanded my heroine’s name to Eloise Grace Graystone . . . who everyone calls Egg.
“I admit that being only nine, I did need lots of help from my sisters. Lucky for me two are dragons and two are sea serpents. The others are human; one’s my best friend who is way smarter than me and the last is the prettiest shade of green and the most beautiful girl I ever met.”
The law of unintended consequences. A good number of years ago my son who was then in 6th grade wrote a short story. I enjoyed it so much that I turned it into a novel. I then wrote a sequel at the request of the kids who read the original story.
In the sequel I named a character for a neighbor’s 9 year old girl and said she was boy crazy. When her mother read the story to her she cried. She hated boys. I felt bad and asked what I might write about to make her smile. She said the girl, Eloise, liked to fly in her dreams.
The next day I began Flying Girl, the first book of what would eventually be a 12 book serial called Egg and the Hameggattic Sisterhood.
I never expected to publish my work. I kept writing because Eloise and other girls her age kept reading and enjoying the stories.
The storyline evolved over time. The first 6 books, written for 6 to 10 year olds, tells of Egg (the initials of my heroine) and the flying suit and mysterious jewelry given to her by her grandmother.
The last 6 books chronicles Egg’s journey to the mythical planet Aerianna to save that world from the evil Mobius. It is there she meets dragons, sea serpents and a host of other characters. These books are 2 to 3 times longer than the first six and are better suited for 7 to 11 year olds.
Egg’s adventure is all good, clean fun and based on experience with friends and relatives, a great series for moms and grandmothers to read to their child or grandchild.
Since I finished the first series, I have written a prequel to the series titled Rose’Alynnia, a second 4-book adventure called Zynn-Zaz’zia and a third adventure entitled The Serenity Deception. The series concludes with a three book set called Sisterhood’s End.
