Cindy and Her Beautiful Bird is an exquisite book about Cindy and her loving moments with Amy, her pet bird. This is a story of the intimacy and challenges of a little girl called Cindy and her beautiful songbird, Amy. Cindy’s bird, Amy, affected her positively. It shows how children can be attached with pets once a cordial relationship has been formed. In this story, Cindy showed us that children can have unwavering faith, even if it seemed goofy, unrealistic, and an illusion! Despite all odds about the whereabouts of Cindy’s bird, she kept believing and having faith.

My love for children and the song by Mary McKee titled My Songbird.
I can be crazy some times (LOL); I often joke to people that Cindy is my child. I will say, “I have two children Cindy and Quimby…” (Quimby is the brother to Cindy in this story). In turn they will ask me, “how come you have two children when you are not yet married yet”? Anyway, I still consider Cindy and Quimby my children (do not worry about their mother. She is fine…hahahaha!!). The reason I call Cindy and Quimby my children is because they are my brainchildren and such I consider them my children in way—kind of…(winks, smiles and kisses).

Visit To Mrs. Bedwin’s House
Hello children, it is story time!
One morning, Cindy and Quimby woke up full of curiosity. Cindy looked at Quimby and said, “Hey Quimby, do you know how a poultry farm works? Or how the chicks are hatched?”
Quimby shook his head and said, “No, but I want to know what kinds of food chickens eat and how they are fed. And where do chickens sleep?”
Even though Mrs. Bedwin had come to their house a few times to bring welcome gifts, Cindy and her family had not ever been to Mrs. Bedwin’s house.
Cindy and Quimby wanted to see the inside of Mrs. Bedwin’s house, but they were even more eager to visit her poultry farm. However their parents did not want the two of them to go alone.
“We will visit Mrs. Bedwin on Saturday,” said Cindy’s father. Cindy and Quimby were thrilled.
On Saturday afternoon, Cindy, Quimby, and their father walked across the yard to Mrs. Bedwin’s house.
“I have some questions I will ask Mrs. Bedwin,” said Quimby as he skipped with excitement.
“Questions like what?” his father asked.
“I’m not saying it out loud until we get to Mrs. Bedwin’s house,” Quimby replied.
“I hope you will ask her good questions,” said his father.
“Don’t worry, I will,” smiled Quimby.
“I will ask Mrs. Bedwin a lot of questions,” added Cindy. “I’m going to ask her how many chickens she has in her poultry farm, how she takes care of her chicks, when she built the poultry farm, and when and how she sells them.”
Cindy’s father nodded and said, “Cindy, those are good questions.” He turned to Quimby and added, “Quimby, why don’t you tell me the questions you want to ask Mrs. Bedwin?”
“No. father, I want Mrs. Bedwin to be the first person to hear the questions I want to ask. I know she will be pleased to hear my questions and happy to answer them.”
“Well, I can’t wait to hear them,” his father said with a smile.
They rang Mrs. Bedwin’s doorbell, but no one answered, so they knocked on the door in case the doorbell didn’t work.
“Hello!” shouted Cheri from the backyard garden.
“I’m in the backyard—walk through the gate and come back here,” called Cheri.
“Good afternoon Cheri, we are looking for Mrs. Bedwin, Mr. Osborne said.
“Oh, I am sorry Mr. Osborne, she is at the poultry farm today,” replied Cheri.
“Well, thank you for letting us know. I guess we will try to see her another day,” said Mr. Osborne.
Cheri noticed the disappointed looks on Cindy and Quimby’s faces, so she suggested,
“You could go visit her at the farm if you’d like. She loves to show people around the farm.”
Cindy’s eyes widened with excitement, and she tugged on her father’s arm and begged, “Please, can we go out to the poultry farm? I really want to see the chickens!”
Cindy and Quimby wiggled with excitement as Cheri gave Mr. Osborne directions to the farm.
“Bye! I hope you enjoy your farm visit!” said Cheri as the Osbornes walked back to their house so they could head to the farm.
When they pulled up to the farm and got out of the car, Cindy held her nose in disgust. “Eww,” she groaned. “The poultry farm is really stinky! I don’t even know where to step because there is chicken poop everywhere!”
Quimby added, “I didn’t know it would be so noisy. The chickens are cackling and clucking so loud.”
“A poultry farm cannot be quiet during the day; the chickens must cackle. It smells because the chickens pass their excrement anywhere they go, so no matter how hard they try to clean it, the odor will remain.” Said Cindy’s father.
Mr. Osborne waved to an older man wearing tall rubber boots. The man waved back and walked over to greet them.
“Hello, you must be Mr. Bedwin. We have met your wife a few times, and I’m pleased to finally meet you. My name is Mr. Osborne, and these are my children, Cindy and Quimby. We are your new next door neighbors.”
Mr. Bedwin smiled and extended a dirty hand to Mr. Osborne. Cindy grimaced at all the grime under Mr. Bedwin’s fingernails. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Osborne.”
“Likewise,” replied Mr. Osborne. “I see that you are quite busy; we don’t want to disturb you, but my children were eager to see your farm. Is Mrs. Bedwin around?”
“She is in the other row cleaning the chicken excrement,” Mr. Bedwin replied, gesturing behind him. Ever since my wife came back from Des Moines, she hasn’t had a chance to clean up the chicken coop. So today, we are cleaning and doing chores all around the farm,” explained Mr. Bedwin.
“Your poultry farm looks so clean and tidy,” Mr. Osborn said. Cindy tried to hide behind her father so Mr. Bedwin wouldn’t notice that she was holding her breath to avoid the offensive smell, but her father pulled her around in front of him and continued.
“Cindy and Quimby would love to walk round your poultry farm and see your chickens.” Said Cindy’s father.
“Fantastic! I love to see children interested in farming. But as you can see, it’s difficult to walk around the farm right now with all the chicken waste. It makes the ground too slippery, and I wouldn’t want anyone to fall. Why don’t you come back a little later?” Mr. Bedwin suggested.
“That sounds great,” agreed Mr. Osborne. Before we leave, we would love to say hi to your wife,” he added.
Mr. Bedwin hollered for his wife, and a few minutes later, she strolled over to them. She wiped her gloves on her overalls as she approached.
“Hello Mrs. Bedwin! Great to see you,” said Mr. Osborne.
“Hello Mrs. Bedwin,” Cindy and Quimby said at the same time.
“Good morning! Thanks for coming out to the farm,” Mrs. Bedwin replied.
Cindy smiled shyly at Mrs. Bedwin and said, “Mrs. Bedwin, we came to see your poultry farm, but we can see you are very busy and the ground is slippery with excrement, so we will come back tomorrow.” “Oh, you sweet children! Please do come back tomorrow. I just returned from Des Moines two days ago, so I am trying to catch up on cleaning.
I would love to show you around the farm tomorrow,” Mrs. Bedwin offered.
The next day, Cindy and Quimby walked next door to visit Mrs. Bedwin. This time Mrs. Bedwin was not busy; she was sitting on the veranda reading her Bible when Cindy and Quimby arrived.
“Good afternoon Mrs. Bedwin,” Cindy and Quimby said.
“My dear little children, how nice to see you!” exclaimed Mrs. Bedwin. “In a short time we can head to the poultry farm, but first I want to finish reading this paragraph in the Bible.”
“Mrs. Bedwin, you sure are fond of reading the Bible,” said Quimby. “Oh yes, my dear Quimby! The Bible is the Word of God, and it is full of life and truth. It teaches and reminds us to be good to people. By reading the Bible, I grow closer to God and find inner peace and joy.”
“Our parents don’t the read the Bible, but they told us that there is a Creator who made heaven and earth,” Cindy said.
“Cindy, do you know the name of the One who created heaven and earth?
“No,” answered Cindy.
“What about you Quimby, do you know the name of the One who created you?”
“No ma’am,” replied Quimby.
“Oh, well then let me tell you!” exclaimed Mrs. Bedwin. She seemed delighted to talk about it. “His name is Jehovah. He created you, me, your father, your mother, the sky, rivers, birds, animals, and everything on earth.”
“Where does Jehovah live?” asked Quimby with wide eager eyes.
“He lives in heaven,” answered Mrs. Bedwin.
“Can we see him?” Cindy asked.
“No, we cannot. But we know about Him and from the things he created and from the Bible, which is His word. By reading the Bible, we can get close to Him and know Him. Jehovah is not only His name; you can call Him many different names, because He is multidimensional: He is the Father of Celestial Lights, God, Maker, Yahweh,” explained Mrs. Bedwin.
“Mrs. Bedwin, can you tell us more about Jehovah and why He has so many names?” Quimby asked. “I would be honored to tell you more. I will explain as much as I can, but you cannot learn everything in the Bible in one day.” Answered Mrs. Bedwin.
“Now, one of the first things I’d like to share with you from the Bible is that everyone is your brother.” Said Mrs. Bedwin.
“Mrs. Bedwin, actually Quimby is my only brother,” whispered Cindy. Quimby agreed and added, “I don’t have any brothers. Just a sister.”
Mrs. Bedwin smiled at them and said, “Well maybe I can explain it another way.
Christ said we should love our neighbour as we love ourselves. That means we should not show kindness only to the people we know; we should show love and kindness to everyone on earth. I will sing you a song that might help you understand.”
Mrs. Bedwin started singing in a crackling soprano voice:
“If you see your brother standing by the way
With a heavy load—going a long way
Just stop and say,
You are going the wrong way
And if you see your sister falling down the way
With a heavy load
From a city so far
Just stop and say you are on the wrong way
You’ve got to try a little kindness
Show a little kindness
Shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you overlook the blindness of the narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded street.
Don’t ever walk along down the night
Lend a helping hand instead of doubt
And the kindness that you showed everyday
Will help someone along the way
You’ve got to try a little kindness
Show a little kindness
Shine your light for everyone to see
And if you show a little kindness
Then you overlook the blindness of the narrow-minded people
On the narrow-minded street.”
“That was really pretty,” Cindy said. Quimby nodded in agreement.
“Thank you, Cindy and Quimby. This song shows one of the reasons that I love to help people whenever I can. And now maybe the two of you will also show kindness to everyone you meet and help people whenever you can,” suggested Mrs. Bedwin.
“Now, let’s go to the poultry farm and see some chickens!”
“Yippee!” squealed Quimby. “I’m so happy to be going to the poultry farm!”
Cindy and Quimby were full of questions when they arrived at the farm.
“Mrs. Bedwin, how many chickens do you have in your poultry farm?” asked Quimby.
“I have 100 grown chickens and 50 chicks,” answered Mrs. Bedwin.
“What kind of food do chickens eat?” Cindy asked.
“I feed my chickens three different kinds of food: grower’s feed, layers feed, and the maintenance feed. The growers feed helps the chicken grow, the layers feed helps the chickens lay eggs, and the maintenance feed helps the chickens maintain their weight.”
“What did you do with all the excrement that you cleaned up yesterday?” asked Quimby. This was the question did not want anybody to know until he asked Mrs. Bedwin.
As they walked around the poultry farm, Cindy and Quimby continued peppering Mrs. Bedwin with queKingsley Osajie is the author of the book Cindy and Her Beautiful Bird. After a while, Mrs. Bedwin said, “I think it is time for us to go back home. Your mother will be expecting you soon. I loved spending the afternoon with you, and I hope you remember the Bible lesson I taught you.”
Mrs. Bedwin! Thank you for teaching us about the Bible and your poultry farm!” exclaimed Cindy.
